Here's what's happening in the world of Ahal...
Doris I. Schnuck Children's Garden wins 2006 Gold Award for Outstanding Bomanite Project Worldwide
02.07.2007

The Children’s Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, MO illustrates a multitude of ways in which concrete can be used to achieve decorative finishes.  Concrete was chosen for its ability to be textured and colored to mimic the dirt paths, cobblestone streets and limestone caves of 19h century Missouri and meet ADA requirements.  A contemporary use of concrete is reflected in the vibrant, colorful application of Micro-Top in the Pollination Garden.  Micro-Top addressed the desire to create an eye catching educational area that would appeal to children.  The Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden provides an example of concrete providing both natural and contemporary paving finishes.

Ahal also received two Quality Concrete Awards for 2000 from the Concrete Council of St. Louis for the following specialty projects:

SURDYKE HARLEY-DAVIDSON
Festus, Misssouri
7,000 SF showroom floor
As a backdrop for the chrome-laden motorcycles, the mottled, leather-like colors of the Patene stain-finished floor mirrors the rugged heritage of the Harley brand, while projecting a sleek, contemporary image. Bomanite imprinted concrete in a boardwalk pattern around the sales counter reinforces this image.

THE SEVENS BUILDING
7777 Bonhomme, Clayton, Missouri
4,000 SF entry plaza
The distinctive sandblast etched pattern and "Sevens" logo creates a vibrant urban space and contemporary image for this Clayton landmark. Sandblasting the geometric pattern produced the crisp contrast that gives this design a three-dimensional feel. As a result, the plaza takes on a dynamic appearance, changing subtly as lighting conditions and viewing angles change.

In addition, Ahal won Bomanite's Best Patene Artectura Project 2000 - Gold Award for the lobby entry floor in "The Heights", Richmond Heights' new community center and library which opened in December 2000.

Anchoring the two-story lobby rotunda is this striking, geometric floor. Ahal poured this 2" topping slab over the 3,600 SF base slab that was poured by another contractor. Bronze terrazzo strips were attached to the base slab in a geometric pattern. As the topping was poured, finishers had to be extremely precise along the terrazzo strips to ensure a clean finish. Reactive stains were carefully applied in three colors, followed by sealer coatings all burnished to a high sheen.
